[ Brief ]

 

This architectural competition, organized by KASA, in association with TAMDEEN, aims for designing implementatives into the evocative Souq Al Kout [ interior of North Pier mall only ]. The focus will be on envisioning its identity as a traditional Kuwaiti Souq. Due to the evident absence of correlation between the term Souq and the user’s experience, traces of associations that generate public engagement are to be integrated within Souq Al Kout.

Project description

The project revolves around designing a psychologically evoking journey through studied spatial configurations, materiality, and installations, while maintaining the pre-existing structure of the building. The objective of the Souq, as a nostalgic traditional communal hub for the district, is to be established to initiate a contrast between the Al Kout Mall and Souq Al Kout.

Deliverables

Analysis:

  • Brief demographic study

  • Defining the term “Souq” through zoning on the pre-existing plan; mapping out the placement of relevant anchor functions and stores

    Proposal:

  • Generating flexible spaces; temporary urbanism [ thematic / seasonal ]
